Overview
Segments is a feature in Localytics that allows you to create behavioral cohorts of users that can be applied as a filter in other reports. Use these to group users based on observed activity and then evaluate habits and common behaviors that lead to success or failure.
Check out the video below for a quick overview of how Segments works.
Sample Use Cases
Consider using Segments to:
Define a Segment of power users and apply this to the Events report to surface the most common behaviors amongst successful users.
Define a Segment of users that abandon activation or conversion process to surface the behaviors associated with unsuccessful users.
Creating a New Segment
To create a new Segment, click the green plus icon.
You'll be prompted to give the Segment a name and a data range. From there you can add the Event conditions (and filters).
Keep in mind, Segments are created using up to two Event conditions. The first condition must be defined as a positive, i.e. users who did complete Event X.
The second condition can be defined as either a positive or negative, but either way, will be evaluated sequentially relative to the first Event, i.e. users who then did complete Event Y or then did not complete Event Y.
Once you've finished building your Segment, don't forget to Save your settings.
